Graham Abbott

Chair of Trustees

Graham is a solo Dad to a 6 year old lad which makes life such an awesome adventure. He started life as an electrician, retrained as a Social Worker, worked in both Substance Misuse and Mental Health Services and now works in the local Public Health team. He has been part of the Colchester Road Baptist family since he was about 3. He remembers a significant book ‘You can make a difference’ by Tony Compolo, it gave him a calling and passion to serve God in his generation. Serving has seasons and having spent much of his life involved with youth work and music ge is currently focussed on his role in the CRBC leadership team. His passion for being involved with CYM started with being a young person when CYM started, going to Highlife, Crucial Moves, Sizewell's, Celebrations, Roadshows and many more . . . . from being a young person, like many before and after, he was soon involved in helping, supporting and organising and leading events. Graham joined as a Trustee in 2013 and it has been an exciting journey seeking God on where He is calling CYM to boldly go. The world around us is ever changing and for CYM following God’s calling has meant journeying from traditional schools work to chaplaincy, transitioning from 'African Adventure' at Sizewell and our base at Great Coleman Street to a move to Vauxhall Farm. Graham is excited and thrilled by the move to Vauxhall Farm, alongside our chaplaincy presence and our local church network. A potential to see God move, lives changed, and individual young people and children reach their full potential, which ultimately is in Jesus.

In his spare time, he helps run a charity for street kids in Latin America and gets out there whenever he can and serves as a trustee for several local charities connected with young people, including CYM. Oh yeah…and the most important bit - he has been involved in Church ministry all his life. He really believes that the local Church really is the hope for the world. He loves teaching theology to the ‘non-religious. He’s really passionate about young people and mission and thinks that living for Jesus is not just a good thing but the best thing.
